Hi everyone. My boyfriend recently got accepted at BCIT in Vancouver. He is a US citizen and I am a Canadian citizen. His semester starts this Fall and he is applying for a study permit next week. We have been in a long distance relationship for about 3 years now. He used to work for the Military, so the GI Bill will pay for his full tuition and living expenses. My 2 questions are:

1. In the letter of explanation, should details of him and I living in the same apartment once he is in Canada be mentioned? Should the relationship be mentioned at all? Like we are splitting rent, etc. Therefore the things he has to pay for should be less. I am afraid that if he mentions that we are in a relationship, that the Visa officer might think that he will not be intending to leave after his permit is up.

2. If he does mention the relationship, do I need to send any documents about how much I earn, bank statements, etc?

3. Although the Bill he has will pay for the tuition and living expenses once the semester starts, he does not have as much money in his savings (which is shown in his bank draft). Only about $1500. Should that matter? He will have enough funds for tuition and living expenses when school starts, I am just worried that the officer might reject him due to not having enough funds to begin with?

Thanks for reading, and any feedback would be appreciated!

1. No - there is no need to mention the relationship. It doesn't matter if he is going to be living with you and sharing expenses - he must still show that he has $10K in funds available to cover first year living expenses.
2. see above.
3. If the GI Bill is going to pay for his tuition and living expenses - then he must include proof with his application that all of these expenses are going to be covered.

Just to add - I would double check that the GI Bill will cover his studies in Canada. I had understood that studies abroad were only covered by the GI Bill if you are taking a program at a school in the US that requires a semester abroad. Hopefully you've already looked into that.

Yes, the GI Bill does cover foreign studies as well. And it is going to cover full tuition as well as living expenses. I am worried about the bank draft though not having a lot. We already have the letter from the GI Bill explaining that they will cover the expenses 100%.

Then it sounds like you should be fine...

So do I even need to send his bank draft if they won't really look at it? Like I'm just wondering if he needs to send a bank draft of his own money even if the Bill covers it all.
