Hey guys anyone here applying from the US who traveled to Canada before for a work project? So my fiance, is just about to submit his application and I know we don't need to submit the RCMP upfront until the CIC asks for it. But I was wondering if we should apply for it and be ready with it in any case so that we can submit it immediately when they ask for it after they start processing our application.

Anyone done this before?
Can someone share their thoughts please.

I’m not taking anything with me. Thinking of flying in. Do I need to do the Goods to follow bit on my first landing? Has anyone had experience amending/doing the goods to follow bit after getting their PR?

Yes. They will stamp the Goods to Follow list during your landing. The Officer who stamped mine told me to be certain there was nothing else I was brining in later, or else I would be subject to taxation on it.

Can anyone share their medical exam costs? I was quoted $500 for adult $300 for children in Florida.

$350 for an adult in Dallas, TX. Don't have kids so I'm not sure of it is the same amount for them.

Well he was here 6 years ago on and off but cumulatively for 6 months.So we think he may asked for the RCMP. Hence the question.

Also another query regarding the proof of funds. He has the proof of finds letter from the bank dated dec 8th and we will be submitting his application on dec 26th. Is that alright or it has to be very recent? And our bank statements necessary?

The one negative during our landing (Vancouver airport) was that the officer would not let us use our brother-in-law's address in Prince George BC for our PR cards "unless you are moving there within two weeks".

He was complaining about the "goods to follow" list as well because we weren't planning on moving within two weeks.

He didn't ask for anything other than the COPR, list of goods, and list of goods to follow. We got through it, the list to follow was approved, and are now PRs. And will later send in the form for the PR cards... using the same address.

Today we're thinking of getting our SIN cards if we can. The officer kept saying we need to go to Prince George (where BIL lives) to get it, but that's not our understanding so we're still going to try.

Seems like you got a bad officer. Generally they don't bother about the address you give as long as it is not a business address. Also I am not sure what was his problem on when you would move which was totally up to you.

I called the two approved physicians in New York the other day. For adults, one of them said $310 cash only, the other $350 and accepts credit cards. They also said insurance does not cover the medical exam.

What do you mean by "and will later send in the form for the PR cards..using the same address"? Asking because, I anticipate the same issue. I'm thinking of doing a soft landing and providing my cousin's home address to have the PR cards delivered... but won't be staying there since I'm thinking of landing in BC and my cousin stays in Ontario.

He gave us a form to fill out for the PR cards once we have a "permanent" address. By which he meant when we physically move.

He was basically really into that we have to physically move first. Which is not an actual requirement. Tbh, he was a bit of a jerk. But it's not a situation where one can do much. So we just said ok, and will deal with it later. Getting approved was much more important.

@dt12, we paid around $1000, maybe a little more, for two adults and a child in Ohio. The office also had an offer where you got $25 off per person for filling out paperwork ahead of time so that was nice. Another thing is if you're traveling anywhere soon, check places local to those locations. We almost did that ourselves but the timing didn't work.

@JERiv , congratulations! Sorry you got a crummy officer but yay getting through! It really is kind of a put your head down thing if that happens (that's where the massive amounts of time spent reading here help, since you know what's up so that cuts down the stress at the time IMO). At least in Ontario, you can use any Service Canada site for the SINs so I hope it's the same for you. It really made it easy. Do you all have any good celebration plans?

They were probably about as old relative to the AOR date as yours but I think CIC kind of has to expect that since with these things you often end up doing them a few weeks early in case of any delays or other issues.

Thanks a lot @moose17. We will just stick to the letter then. And any clue about the RCMP certificate at all? Is it wise have finger prints ready and then apply for the certificate if at all we get that request during processing. Just because we may save time.
Or you think we just wait for it from CIC to request and then start the process. No one seems to know about this.

any thoughts?
