Dear Gurus,

I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship. Since we had a newborn she is traveling next week to my home country for May be 1 year.

Is it good to submit citizenship application now or should I wait to apply once she is back next year same time?

1. If we apply now is she gets a finger prints reques she needs to come back and go again?

2. If she gets exam that’s the same issue

3. Again if all goes well oath will have same problem

But if we send an application now and for any inperson needs or queries can we ask CIC to put our application on hold so that she can resume it when is is actually back to Canada next year. Is that possible.

Can I apply now with this risk or should I wait and apply when she is actually back to Canada next year??

Please advise

Thanks

If you apply now, she will need to come back to provide the additional info/FP/exam... requested right away (i.e., immediately travel).
No, CIC will not put on hold anything. They will return/denied your application due to lack of information.

If we have the same delays in the future (as you can follow in the available spreadsheets), it may be a good idea to apply less than 6 months before she comes back. It is taking a long time to get the AoR and for them to process it (IP step).

OR you can apply by yourself and your baby, and she can start the process after when she comes back (in separate).

Citizenship Process Acronym Guide:

CIC: Citizenship and Immigration Canada
AOR: Acknowledgement of Receipt (email or physical mail informing you that your application has been received)
ECAS:Electronic Client Application Status (Online service through CIC where you can check your status)
IP: In Processing
DM: Decision Made
RQ: Residency Questionnaire
FP: Fingerprint Request

Unless you can afford to pay for 2 return trips possible 3 trips at last moment purchase, you really should wait for her to return to Canada and apply then.

She can apply as soon as she returns to Canada with an updated recent police report from home country ready.
