Hello, I'm seeking guidance on how my dad can withdraw his sponsorship (Family Class Outland) for his spouse. For rough background, the application was submitted in July 2026, and she's already been asked to appear for biometrics. He also received an email saying he's eligible for sponsorship. She hired her own lawyer, who is the representative. But their relationship has broken down, and we are really worried for our safety if her PR is approved because she's been threatening and harassing our family. We have his UCI and file number and submitted an IRCC webform, but when we called IRCC a week later, the immigration agent said they can't see the form. I'm really worried about the timeline of processing and don't know what we did wrong. We selected "I'm writing on behalf of the principal applicant" and then filled out the info, but they can't see it. We also mailed a withdrawal letter to the CIO in Sydney, NS, as instructed, but then we were told it could be a while before anyone opens that mail. If anyone who has been in a similar situation could offer any guidance on next steps or who to contact, it would be much appreciated, as we are really worried.

One small point: you do NOT want to have any issue with whether or not you (individually) are authorized or entitled to submit a withdrawal on his behalf. In this instance, write up a letter from him and have him sign, then scan and submit this.

Now: while I'm not saying don't take this seriously, in almost all cases they will not proceed with an application if the webform system for a particular file or UCI has any outstanding correspondence (they have to check this). I'm sure this is true for the withdrawal letter submitted to Sydney as well - at least once it's been physically opened and registered against the file/UCI #s.

That said, you definitely do not want any issues. You can certainly submit an additional webform. In this case, I'd also contact your father's MP's office, and ask them to ensure that this withdrawal is acted upon (at least in the form of a block on any finalization of his spouse's application/PR status). He'll need to provide an overview of the situation, a privacy authorization to the MP's office, and probably a copy of things he has submitted.

If the lawyer (representative) was authorized to represent him in the process, he should absolutely submit a revised 'authorization of representative' where he specifically withdraws any previous and either appoints himself or you.

Now you may wish to also speak to a lawyer, given the circumstances, at least to confirm if anything more is needed or can be done. (My guess is probably not if you do the above so a consultation should not be that expensive). A lawyer might, for example, advise whether any step to advise the other lawyer that they no longer are authorized to represent him in any matter - and in what form.

Final thought (not a lawyer myself): you want to make sure the withdrawal letter is as clear and specific as possible, and covers all bases. The things I can think of:
-identification as clear as possible (UCI and app numbers, etc, reference to the specific PR applicaiton/sponsorship and his guarantee obligations).
-explicit and simple: formally withdrawing sponsorship, guarantee, and all related - he disavows support and sponsorship, effective immediately (or previous date).
-if he hasn't, again, de-authorize/authorize a new representative for himself separate from his spouse.
