Hi all,

My mother in law and sister in law Are travelling to Canada today from Guatemala. The sister got the written authorization and was permitted to fly to board the plane to Canada when in mexico city airport. The mother was told by Aeromexico staff that the Canadian embassy contacted them and said she was not allowed to board the plane.

i am at a loss as to why this has happened. Aswell, I do not know who to contact to get more information. The staff at Aeromexico have been fantastically unhelpful and everything is closed now for the weekend.

any help would be greatly appreciated as I honestly have no idea why this would happen. We completed all the necessary paperwork.

thank you

We need more information. What is your status and your spouse's status is Canada?

The mother had even today recieved an email reply saying she does not need a written authorization and is exempt from the travel restriction. This is in reply to the message she had to send after applying for the eta.

Based on how I understand the rules your mother in law needs authorization to travel since your wife has temporary status in Canada. However the rules keep changing so I may be mistaken.

Per the govt website. An immediate family member is someone defined as : Parent or step parent (yours, your spous's, or common law partner).

She would fall under that category. Aswell, Aeromexico told me beforehand the mother would be exempt.

Got it. I'm still thinking of the older rules.

I think you'll need to wait until Monday to contact the embassy.

How long has your wife been a visitor in Canada? Is she a Guatamalan citizen? She must be a Mexican citizen as well if she only needed an ETA. How did you get PR? Are there any family members who have filed for asylum or lived illegally in Canada, the US or another country?
