My parents became PR in September 2019. They stayed for 3 months and went back. Now, they have come again in August 2023, their PR cards will be expiring in October 2024. Until there expiry they would not be able to complete residency obligation of 730 days.
My question are?
As they have to remain in for 2 years even after the expiry date. Would their initial 3 months would count?

Before expiry they intend to travel in Feb 2024 for a month for some bank issues. Would there be any problem.

Has anyone had similar situation and and or got renewed easily after completing RO but after expiry date

Thanks much.

The initial three months will not count since they were outside of Canada for more than three years. The residency obligation only considers the last five years from the date you apply.

Leaving Canada in February will carry risk since this means they could be reported for failing to meet the residency requirement when they re-enter Canada. If they are reported, this would trigger the process to revoke their PR status (although they would have the opportunity to appeal). The best option if PR is a priority is to remain in Canada without leaving for 2 straight years to meet the residency obligation.
