Update Can passport with new Surname?

Hoping to wed in late August and file for Sponsorship immediately in order to extend his TRV while we wait and apply outland for PR.

My Passport expires in October 2012.

Should I renew my passport prior to summer so it is current for the beginning and duration of the application?
or
Can I renew it in October and change it to my new married name?

The status of your passport doesn't matter during the application. Why not postpone the renewal until after your marriage?
