Hello everyone,

We have started my daughter's university application, and she has been accepted. Everything went smoothly.

As we are protected persons and our passports are with IRCC, we can not ask for the passports until we are a PR. ( I already talked to an IRCC agent regarding this, and they advised me to write everything in the explanation letter. - will do)

A complex scenario: When registering on the OUAC website, they considered her an international student even though she selected the immigration status ' protected person '. University fees will be as a domestic student. The admissions officers cannot answer our questions. They keep transferring us from dept to dept.

The main issue arises when the university needs a valid passport copy to generate the student ID card. I am not sure if any of you have experienced a similar scenario, and I would appreciate your comments or suggestions on this. We have the copy that will expire in June 2026. The submitted passport can not be expired.

I know I can not do anything, but I have completed 30 months (Oct 2023 applicant) as a protected person, and for the first time, I am feeling frustrated.

Thank you!

She needs an IFE from the school does she not? What school is she attending?

And also in many cases, a valid Ontario driver’s license or Ontario Photo Card can be used instead of a passport for student ID purposes, since those are government-issued identification.

Thanks!

But her application is continuing as an International Student; however, regarding fees, she is a domestic student. A very complex situation.

Yes, it can seem complex, but this does happen. A student may remain listed as an International Student in the system for administrative reasons, while still being correctly charged domestic tuition based on protected person status. The tuition classification is what matters most.

Hi, is there a way my son can be treated as domestic for tuition fees in UBC. We are not protected persons but got Approval in Principle for H&C application
