Hey,

I am going to be applying for PGWP soon after a 4 year undergraduate degree. I was in a co-op program, and during my 2nd year I was put on probation temporarily for failing a course which dropped my average. This meant that one of my co-op terms got canceled and got replaced with an 'off' term.

I had already arranged a job for that term, and didn't realize it would be violating the rules since I did have a work permit. I went on to work for that job for 4 months and re-took the failed course. Next term onwards, I resumed my full time studies and did everything the way it should be.

I am going to apply for PGWP in a few months and I just realized I may have made a huge mistake. In my defense, I could not have resumed full time studies without having at least one part time term to retake the failed course because all future courses had it as a prerequisite. Working the job was a huge mistake, but it was over 2 years ago, do you think it will affect my PGWP? How can I try to explain this situation?

Cra and ircc are 2 completely different organizations, trust me .. nothing is gonna happen, strop stressing about it. In this forum, you will see tons of ppl with same queries , nothing happened with them. The only way that will be a problem is that if someone reported you.

Got it, my situations a bit more complex dude, i might sound needy but really need your input: But first did the part time course and the co-op work was it in the summer term that you did? , also this is my situation dude need help:
Context:
  1. Current Situation:
    • I'm a third-year student in a non-co-op program at my university.
    • The university has an external co-op program where students can participate in co-op opportunities, but it’s not like the regular co-op program.
    • The program isn't mandatory and doesn’t directly affect your degree; if you complete it, it gets noted on your degree, but if you don’t, you still get your regular degree.
  2. What Happened:
    • This fall term, I secured a co-op job related to my degree.
    • I uploaded all necessary documents on the university portal to register for the course associated with the co-op.
    • I assumed everything was taken care of and didn’t follow up after uploading the documents.
  3. The Issue:
    • At the end of the term, I realized that the course related to my co-op wasn’t showing on my transcript, and there was no final test or mention of it.
    • When I contacted my faculty for clarification, I was informed that I had never officially informed them about my co-op experience.
  4. The Consequence:
    • I have unknowingly done 120 days of unauthorized work.
    • This is a serious issue because I assumed everything was fine and followed the procedures I thought were necessary.
  5. The Compliance:
    • The co-op was directly related to my degree and met all the conditions of my optional program, and I plan to return as a full-time student after completing it, like required.
    • I have a valid co-op work permit, but now I'm unsure of the consequences of my unauthorized work.
  6. What’s at Stake:
    • I need to apply for a study permit extension by September 2025, but I don’t know if it will be approved now due to this issue.
    • I feel lost and don't know what to do next. I didn’t intentionally make a mistake, but I failed to follow through on my end.
  7. Mistake:
    • I acknowledge that I got complacent, thinking things would work out without checking. This was a mistake, and now I’m feeling like my academic and professional future could be in jeopardy.

Here’s the thing , you will get 2 opinions here, one with be upfront and explain about it , other is to not say anything about it. I can’t speak from personal experience but -
1. Either you come clean and explain the situation in LOA, it wil be on the VO to decide whether to overlook
2. Just don’t say anything about it, you are not required to give employment details on pgwp application, you just put ur college details

Its not for pgwp right now, as it is just for study permit extension, i mean i can submit my transcript today as is , but it shows a gap of a semester and i dont have a leave of absense authorized but it was less than 120 days. so what do you suggest ?

Non-compliance with study permit conditions or engaging in unauthorized work or study may also negatively affect future applications that are made under the IRPA and IRPR. For example, a subsequent study permit or work permit may not be issued until a period of 6 months has passed, since the cessation of the unauthorized work or study or failure to comply with a condition, per section R221 and subsection R200(3).

i am not sure , other might wanna chip in their opinions as well, but from what i have readz my understanding is if 6 months has passed from ghe date you seized being non-compliant with your study permit conditions. You will be issued the subsequent permit.
