Hello
Can some give me advice on this?

I have sponsored my common-law partner to Canada, my undertaking finishes December 2017 (the 3 year undertaking). Our relationship has broken down, however I realize that I'm still responsible for him until December 2017. However, I want to sponsor someone new once my undertaking finishes. Does anyone know if there is a bar for me until I can sponsor someone else? CIC says two different things:

1. Once the undertaking of the previous spouse finishes, I am eligible to sponsor someone else.

2. I am eligible to sponsor someone else after 5 years (since my application was submitted after 3/2/2012). CIC: "you are not eligible to be sponsored if: your sponsor has sponsored another spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner in the past, and three years have not passed since that person became a permanent resident (or five years if your application was received on or after March 2, 2012)."

I have seen both on the website.
Thanks

You can sponsor after the 3-year undertaking is over.

The 5-year bar is for people that were sponsored as PRs to Canada. So your ex-common law partner would need to wait 5 years from when they landed as PR, before they can sponsor a new spouse.

Thanks Rob_TO, however, why is it that CIC mentioned in brackets the 5-year rule....which it seems to concern me (not the ex common law).

That's only for people who were sponsor themselves under family class. It doesn't' apply to you, only to the person you originally sponsored.
