TRV New York - is VAC faster or online app faster

My parents are visiting me in New Jersey from China. I am a US citizen and they are Chinese citizens. We have made vacation reservations to go to Canada in July.

Can someone tell me if it is faster to apply from VAC or from cic.gc.ca directly? If we apply directly from cic.gc.ca and get the notification from the New York consulate to mail the passports, should we mail directly to the NY consulate or via VAC?

We are running short on time, so trying to determine the fastest option. Your help is appreciated!

VACs are middle men between you and CIC. So it is faster to do it directly through CIC.

It is advised to start an application at least 2 months before the date you need your passport, as delays do happen.
