Hi friends,

I just got my COPR and completed my landing yesterday! Hooray!! Now I have run into another problem. I have to go back to Australia for a wedding in 3 weeks time, and I've just seen that you can't travel on your COPR. Does anyone have any experience with getting a Travel Document - Permanent Resident Abroad? What's involved? How long does it take?

Thanks in advance.

In my case, it took only 5 days to received PRTD,
You can see the following document for your application,

1. Travel document application, IMM 5524
2. All passport used for five(5) years before the application
3. Two(2) photographs
4. Copy of COPR
5. Employment letter in Canada
6. Rental agreement
7. T4s, NOAs

Please note that, the processing time depends on the county where you apply,
You can call and query to Canadian embassy or VFS first before you submit application.

If you are Australian, you don't need a PRTD. The eTA requirement has been delayed until September, so you can still return to Canada on the strength of just your passport. Don't mention to the airline that you are a PR; you are travelling as a visitor. When you enter Canada, present yourself to CBSA as a PR and just explain that you haven't yet received your PR card; there will be no issue.
