Hi, I have RTD document and wanted to travel to a neighbor country. However, I noticed that the flights Im looking at are traveling via my home country. Is it okay to travel without exiting my home country airport? Please advise

You cant as by using rtd your country can get information about you. so you cant do that..and you are not allowed to USe RTD by transiting your home country..

No, not OK.

Avoid any travel to your home country, including transits.

You have two options:

1) Get a TRV (tourist visa) to Canada, fly to Canada, and claim asylum when you arrive here.
2) Leave your home country and move to a different country. Once you are there, be recognized as a refugee by UNHCR. UNHCR will then determine where you are resettled.

Would warn you that if you go to a neighbouring country and register with UNHCR as a refugee the majority of refugees never get resettled elsewhere they remain in the neighbouring country. In terms of a TRV you will be expected to show strong ties to your home country like a decent paying job, property ownership (even a longterm lease is better then nothing), other ties like dependent family members left in your home country (spouse and children), good personal savings amount, previous international travel helps especially to countries like the US, UK, Australia, etc. A valid reason for travel also will help with TRV approval. If you have a low level of savings and have never travelled it wouldn’t make sense to travel all the way to Canada for tourism purposes for example. Getting a TRV is quite difficult even compared to many countries and getting a response to your TRV can take up to months so I would also be exploring other options as if your safety is at risk.
