Travel to US without PR card ?

Hi,

We landed on 21st June in Toronto as Permanent Residents. We are yet to get our PR card .

Can we travel to USA for 3-4 days and travel back to Canada with :
1. Our Indian Passport
2. Copy of Confirmation of Permanent Residence issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada ( which is proof of our PR status).

Pls advice.

The CIC website says when re-entering Canada on a commercial carrier (plane, train, boat and bus) permanent resident card is required. I have heard that if you are travelling by car COPR works but I cannot confirm this as immigration laws change on daily basis. I would call the border authority to confirm before attemping to travel.
