Hi everyone!

Do you think having a travel insurance will somehow boost an applicant's chance of getting approved?

Thank you. :)

Hi,

No, buying an overseas travel medical insurance policy will not boost an applicant's chance of getting a TRV.

It's a good idea for applicants like elderly parents/visitors who may remain for long duration. It shows that possible medical emergencies have been covered

Cheers

Agreed with a previous post.

If you are applying for a regular TRV, having medical insurance won't make a difference in regards to your visa application. Yet, it is a pretty smart idea to get an insurance coverage for as long as you stay in Canada, since as a visitor you won't be covered under any provincial insurance plan, which could be a serious issue, if it comes to paying the bills for medical services.

And here you have a choice of getting an overseas travel insurance or the Canadian private policy for Visitors to Canada. The latter would be easier to manage and cover the treatment costs for medical emergencies you may have within the country.

Here is a list of major Canadian insurance providers, what they offer and at what price - Visitors to Canada Insurance

For Canadian TRV overseas medical insurance is not a compulsion, however it shows prudence on part of the visitor. Also I think it gives some assurance to the Canadian govt. regarding applicant not being a burden on tax payers or inviter incase of a medical emergency.

Incorrect. Medical Insurance is a compulsory for Super visa applicants (a type of Canadian TRV).

@ steaky,

I was talking about regular TRV and not Supervisa.

You said Canadian TRV without specifying regular TRV or supervisa.

No as it has no relevance to your socio economic ties in the home country that will compel you to leave Canada after the end of your visit.

Like everyone here said, having insurance won't boost your chances, since virtually anyone can purchase insurance, show proof, then immediately cancel it.
