Is that 3000-5000 including delivery? The OP I assume is hoping to be covered prior to delivery... Any idea on the costs per routine visit?

I had no issues with a midwife in Toronto (was in north west Scarborough, the office was at warden and sheppard... Not sure about Mississauga? I noticed a very high prevalence of Muslim/middle eastern women in my clinic (likely cultural), so if you're in or looking in a highly multicultural area, you may want to be proactive (or, they may have more than enough to meet the need?) Otherwise availability was another reason I sought out a midwife... My doctor put the idea in my head because she knew a couple doctors in my area werent great for accepting new patients in a timely fashion, where the mw clinic was much more accommodating... It's probably very area dependent...

Good luck!

SaugaBoss, I looked up the Association of midwives in Ontario- here is the website: http://www.aom.on.ca/Default.aspx

There is a lot of info on the site, they have a toll free number you can call and ask about prices and availability in your area.
On a sidenote, I live in Northern Alberta, and I did not see an OBGYN until the 39th week of my pregnancy, only my family doctor. There is only 3 OBGYN in town for such high volume of pregnancies that only one of them is accepting patients, the others are only delivering at the hospital. If I have had the option to choose a midwife, I would have done it for sure. As Chelley said sometimes you get more quality service from them as in the traditional way.

Wow it looks like the previous poster was correct...
http://www.aom.on.ca/Midwifery_Care/What_is_a_Midwife.aspx

Says women without OHIP coverage can still get free midwifery care... Not sure what the stipulations might be, but a GREAT to know for you and women in similar situations... Lots of good info there!
