Hi rawfile,

I think you should get your PR cards by first week of June. I was landed on 10th March. Just in case if you don't get your PR cards before you fly to India, you can apply for the travel document to go back to Canada. I have finished my landing and came to India. I have booked my return flight back to Canada on 13th June, so I may not get my PR cards first to Canada address and then to India. That's why I have applied for my travel document a week ago.

Lets hope for the best.

Thank you for the quick reply Sarayu!

Could you please let me know if I can apply for these Travel Documents while I am in Canada?
I am traveling to India for just 10 days. If I have to apply while I am outside Canada, then I might not have enough time.

Thanks!

Hi shimnui1,

I have heard the term TRV....but honestly don't know exactly what it is. Anyway, a travel document is equivalent to a visa with which one can travel. As per my understanding, this will be issued only for the person who already has a PR.

Thanks,
Sarayu.

Hi rawfile,

I don't think that you can for the travel document being in Canada. I am sure, 10 days will not be sufficient for you to apply for a travel document and get it. I am very positive that you should get your PR cards before you fly to India...good luck.

Thanks,
Sarayu.

I also had the same question and after clarifying from the VFS agent, mentioned as "N/A".

Thanks.

Hi Sarayu,

I landed here in Canada on March 25th and had booked tickets to fly to India by Mid-June (At the time of booking my ticket, the PR Card wait time was 60 days). Now it looks like i would not be getting my PR Card before I fly out and looks like i need to apply for a Travel document from India to re-enter Canada. Would it be possible for you to either message me or mention out here,
1. What's the process to apply for Travel document from India.
2. Any idea on the processing time for it?
3. Also, how long has it been since you had applied for yours?

Thanks in advance!

Hi wolfpack27616,

First of all hearty congratulations on becoming Canadian PR.

I am 99.99% sure that you will not receive your PR cards before you fly to India, as the PR cards processing times now is 85 calendar days.

So, I strongly suggest you to apply for your travel document so that you can fly back to Canada without any issues. It's very simple process to apply for the travel document. Please take a look at the below provided two links where you will find the complete information about it. I had submitted an application for my travel document on May 13th and I am expecting my passport to be delivered today (as per the tracking information)....don't know whether they have approved my travel document or not....but my original passport is on the way to my home now.

When I applied for it, the VFS official said it takes minimum of 10 working days. Good luck.

Hi wolfpack27616,

Just an update... I have received my passport just now and they approved my travel document and stamped a single entry visa which is valid for 6 months.

Thanks for the links and the timeline. So, it took them 16 days to return the passport back to you? Can I also know which city in India you are from? (to estimate if I have to add days for postal delays when they send it to me at Chennai).

Also, have you checked with your airlines yet if they would be ok with you traveling with the travel document?

And finally- would you be able to track the whole process- right from submission to processing to dispatch- or can we just track the dispatch part alone?

Thanks in advance!

Hi wolfpack27616,

Yes it was 16 calendar days in my case.

I am from Telangana...:)... New state. So, I had submitted my application at VFS office in Hyderabad. I haven't checked with my airlines, I hope I can travel with the travel document. As I said earlier, it's just Avis's stamping...so hope it should be for flying.

Yes I was able to track the progress of my application at each stage.

Thanks,
Sarayu.
