My Russian friend is doing his motorcycle world tour. Now he is in USA (touristic visa b1/b2). He wants to go to Canada and need a visa. How he can do it faster? Is it better to do it online (but he is riding and don't stay more then 2 nights in one place)? or he can go to VAC in New York (how soon he can get his passport back)... Maybe somebody can help us with this questions?

I don't think walk-ins are still done. He'll need to apply online or by mail. Processing times really vary - anywhere from a few days to a few months. How long is he in the US before he wants to come to Canada? Given he's going to be moving around, I'm not sure how feasible it's going to be to get a visa for the US.

Thank you. I think, about 3-4 weeks. Can he apply online, if its ok - send the passport and then personally collect it in VAC new york?

Do keep in mind that it is currently taking between 10-15 business days for visa stamping after passport submission to the NY CSC.

Also, as he is traveling quite a bit + he would be applying when he has visitor status in the US, how will he prove that he will leave Canada at the end of his visit?

Yeah - I'm not sure how this can work out. He should have applied for the TRV back in Russia before he left for his trip to the US. I think he should change his plans and forget about visiting Canada this time around.

Its not a good idea) he is travelling around the would since the end of 2016. He has his own travel site, blogs and so on...

OK - he can certainly still apply. He needs to be prepared to apply online and wait anywhere from a few days to a few months for approval (there's no way for us to tell him how long he might have to wait). As mentioned by Bryanna, if he's approved, he'll also need to be willing to give up his passport for 2-3 weeks for the TRV to be issued.

To add to scylla's reply:
It would help if he has worked out an itinerary (hotel bookings/stays with Canadian hosts + visits of finite duration for each place he would be visiting, etc) + he can prove he has the finances to pay for his stay/his travel + he has visas/bookings for the next country/the next destination

Just wanted to know when VAC send back the passports to applicant, do they give the return tracking number. I just called the VAC and they said they do, but wanted to confirm with other applicants. unfortunately USPS has not given me return tracking as they posted stamp on my return envelope, they said VAC should give that to you when they are sending back
