So I'm from a TRV exempt country, so if I'm in Canada on that for 4-5 months I'm fine to enroll in a course of distance study right? In this case the online course is through a University based in the United Kingdom. Since its not a Canada based institution I will not need a Canadian student visa right?

No need to get a Canadian student visa if you will study distance learning and the Uni in based outside Canada.
