I just read David Cohen's new July issue of Immigration News. Fantastic newsletter. Always very helpful (thanks!).

I note that in the newsletter, there is mention of changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), specifically to International Mobility Programs (IMP) of which workers covered under the NAFTA agreement is one class under IMP.

"In addition, beginning in summer 2015 employers hiring through some International Mobility Programs must have their job offers approved by a Canadian visa office before their hired employees can request a work permit. The processing fee for the job offer approval application will be $230."

Specifically, is the Professional category of NAFTA Treaty work permits one of the IMP groups that will need to have their job offers approved by a Canadian visa office prior to work permit request at the border?

If so, when does the requirement take effect?

Thank you in advance for any responses.

-- Yes, that's correct.

If so, when does the requirement take effect?

-- No specific date has been announced yet beyond Summer 2015.
