My wife got work permit extension along with mine. She was a dependent applicant in my BOWP application. So yes go ahead and submit together as one application.

Hi Kijo,

Is your wife in Canada or outside Canada when you apply for BOWP ? I'm planning to apply to BOWP along with my wife once I got my AOR but she is in the Philippines.

Yes my wife was in Canada when I applied for BOWP, she is still here. Does your wife have any work permit? Or does she have any travel history for Canada??
I think if she has a work permit then you can apply even though she is in Philippines now. But if she has never been in Canada and she doesn't have a valid work permit then I think she will have to be here with you to apply for the BOWP for the two of you. Otherwise once you get your own BOWP she can apply separately from Philippines and she can get a dependent open work permit based on your BOWP.

Hope this makes sense. :)

Wife has applied for SOWP (spousal work permit)in Philippines but its taking longer than the regular processing time of 5 months ( her application is almost 9 months now). We are planning to pull-out her SOWP application in Philippines and apply for a new one (once I got the BOWP ) thru online thinking online application is much faster than paper application. I know its a little stupid to do this and a waste of time and money but its so tough to be thousand miles away from my loving wife :(

I understand these damn visa technicalities...takes so much time. I was away from my wife for two years so hang in there..
Good luck.!!!

Is it possible to work part-time under OWP? As far as I know, it is not possible under restricted one, and I can't find any information about BOWP. Say, can the person have couple of casual positions or just do one part time? Thank you!

You can work as little as you want, or not at all. It's open.

Hey, so I went through all these threads and still don't find an answer. Most probably because my case is very simple, but that's why I am confused about what to include in my BOWP:

- PGWP expiring in 3 months
- AOR recieved 6 days ago
- Currently in Canada.

I am a permanent employee in an IT company (I have a copy of my contract). I have never had nor needed a LMO. No other application than mine.

Questions:

1. With IMM5710E, Q3. Should I put "a work permit with the same employer" or a "a work permit with a new employer"? It sounds to me more like "extension of temporary resident permit", but when I check this one the validation asks me to check "same and new" employers checkboxes.

2. With IMM5710E, EMPLOYMENT. Should I add the complete work history like the one I provided for the PR? It is not that long but more than 3 rows. I guess uploading a pdf would suffice?

3. With IMM5710E, BACKGROUND INFORMATION. Q2 Have you remained beyond the validity of your status, attended school without autjorization or worked without authorization in Canada? - My SP expired back in Dec 31, 2010, I applied for my PGWP on December 22nd 2010. I had a contract signed for January 17th. The company said they would hold it until I submitted my PGWP which arrived on February 9th 2011. So I was in Canada por 40 days without a "legal status" (implied status was my understanding). Should I mention all this?

The checklist I got online and the checklist on CIC differ quite a bit. The one I got online is way more confusing than the one found online IMM5556, so I am confused what to send and what not to send:

- Offer of employment. I have been reading that if it is an OWP this is not required as it could mean I am asking for a closed one. Anyway I don't have an offer, I have my contract. Should I include it?

- LMO. As far as I have been advised no need for LMO.

- Proof that you meet requirements of the job being offered. I can submit my diploma, some certifications. Is this needed?

- Letter of explanation. I have read a lot about cover letters. Never sent one, so should I include one? If so what should it say? I think I have nothing to say, my case is simple and straight forward.

When I applied I chose 'new employer' but didn't provide any employer info. Neither did i attach any contract copy.
Its open work permit, employer doesn't matter.
In your letter for explanation do mention that you are applying for BOWP.

What about all the other stuff?

Check - Extension of temp permit and work permit with the same employer.

Provide work history as you did for PR. Guessing you are a CEC applicant.

You were never out of status. Take it easy.

Pull out the most recent check-list. Don't make choices.

You need an LMO unless you are a CEC applicant.

No need for any proof. Just include your PR file no. That explains everything.

Include a cover letter. Be straight forward. Don't write stories.

BOWP is always OPEN!

Apply online, saves you time and money.

Good luck.
