Thank you so much bonbon9 for updating our information. I am happy to report my husband also received his AOR on December 16,2010.

Not sure what we should be doing now, just continue to wait I guess. If anyone has any helpful tips on things we should be doing now that would be greatly appreciate!

Have a wonderful day!
New Wife :)

from a different post re;interview done

Here goes my story.
We had pre-arranged to meet our translator at 8:40 near the lobby elevators.
After meeting up with the translator we went straight to the Immigration office floor.
There we were greeted by the security officer who thoroughly checked our papers to confirm we were indeed allowed to enter or not.
After we entered, we were told to go to one of the windows to confirm our arrival for our interview and was told to sit down.
There wasn't that many in the waiting room.
My guess is, there were about 5 couples ahead of us and I'm assuming 6-10 others there waiting to pickup visas, or documents.
We figured out there were only 2 Immigration Officers, as only people were entering rooms 13 and 16.
I believe they close their doors at 10. After that no one else is to enter the immigration office.
That made us to believe we were that last couple for that day for interviews.
Most interviews before us lasted about 45 minutes.
The ones who entered room 13, all 3 couple came out smiling.
The other 2 that came out of room 16 didn't seem to happy.
We patiently waited until 11:45 and our number was called.
We were told to enter room 13. There we were greeted with our Immigration Officer.
She was very nice and approachable. Right away, we were greeted with a smile. The officer explained the situation and requested to proceed with questions. She asked me to start the interview first and for my wife to step outside.
Her first question was to describe my current job.
(I described in full details about my job, what I do, how long Iv been working there for, she asked if I enjoyed my job)
Second question was, has my wife ever told me a secret, or if Iv told her a secret?
Third question was, have you 2 discussed about having kids?
Fourth question was, have you 2 discussed about financial plans in the future?
Fifth question was, what does she plan to do when she comes to Canada?
(I explained we talk about this allot, I talked about how we discussed when she comes to Canada, I would like her to proceed with full vocational English courses and other schooling if needed to help find a career in Canada. The officer was very pleased to hear this, and commented how great it was that we planning ahead with great details.)
This interview really turned out to be an easy conversation with the officer and I.
We basically chit chatted our questions through. She was smiling allot, as was I.
I can definitely tell by her responses, she wasn't worried about myself passing or not, rather if my wife can answer the same questions properly.
My interview was done within 15 minutes.
She asked me to leave and for my wife and his translator to enter.

Sitting just outside the door, I can almost hear the whole interview process.
She was basically interviewed with the same questions.
Just like myself, my wife also chatted through her interview process.
Instead of just answering black and white.

Yes indeed I received the letter yesterday 20th December, though it was dated 14th December.

Bonbon, would you mind updating the list please.

Many thanks in advance for all your wishes.

Hi Bonbon - On the next update could you please add a few items to my profile?

Office = Sydney, Ap. Sent = 15/9, Process = 27/10 and AOR = 2/12.

Got my Quebec Selection Certificate confirmation as well, which was a nice update. Took about 5 weeks from the time we sent it.

Canada’s Jason Kenney on immigration priorities for 2011

Posted on December 21, 2010 by oe_admin

Jason Kenney, Canada’s minister of citizenship, immigration and multiculturalism, was interviewed recently by the online magazine Canadian Immigrant to discuss the federal government’s immigration and settlement policy priorities for 2011. Here are some highlights of the interview.

MINISTER KENNEY ON HIS TOP PRIORITIES FOR 2011

CI: What are Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s top priorities for the new year?

JK: Our top priority is continuing to improve economic results for immigrants in Canada. That really is the focus of most of what we do. A second priority is to continue to improve the integrity of our immigration system, which includes a crackdown on human smuggling, fraudulent marriages and crooked consultants.

MINISTER KENNEY ON THE INVESTOR PROGRAM

CI: What is the rationale behind doubling the required investment for the immigrant investor program? Won’t this affect Canada’s competitiveness in relation to other countries’ immigrant investor programs?

JK: The main reason we doubled the required investment (to $800,000) and asset level (to $1,600,000) was because Canada was massively underselling itself compared to its competitors in this immigration product. The United States and Australia both essentially have million-dollar price points. The United Kingdom has a price point of a million pound sterling. We were offering people the lowest price point at $400,000 for the best advantage, which is immediate permanent residency in Canada, which is also a track to the easiest citizenship process in the developed world … Many people in China, in Hong Kong and India have said to me that the price point is still too low.

They’ve said that it’s so easy for modestly wealthy people in Asia and the Middle East to qualify for the program and that we won’t see any reduction in demand for the Canadian program. It may reduce, very marginally, the demand, but the demand is still excessive in terms of our ability to process applications.

MINISTER KENNEY ON THE ECONOMIC PROGRESS OF NEWCOMERS

JK: I can tell you that we recently released a new study that assesses the economic progress of immigrants selected under the current points grid that was adopted in 2002 … It indicates that there has been a huge improvement of employment and income for skilled workers.

The new study indicates that within three years newly selected federal skilled workers are generating, on average, $80,000 in household income, which is very strong. We also have launched consultations on further changes to the points grid for the skilled worker program, which we hope will further improve economic outcomes for newcomers.

Also, since 2006, our government tripled the federal investment in settlement and integration services to help people improve their language proficiency and their job search skills. All of the data indicates that the number one barrier to employment for foreign-trained professionals is language proficiency and that’s why we put such a heavy emphasis on it. We are trying to find more and better ways to get newcomers, who need to upgrade their language skills, to enrol in free [language] programs.

MINISTER KENNEY ON FOREIGN CREDENTIAL RECOGNITION

CI: Are there any new developments with regards to foreign credential recognition?

JK: We have been doing a lot of work with the provinces and the more than 400 professional licensing bodies to streamline and simplify the process of credential recognition for foreign-trained professionals. A year ago, we launched the Canadian Framework for Foreign Credential Recognition, which was based on an agreement between the 10 premiers and Prime Minister Harper.

We have identified, in the first year, nine professional categories where we aim to hammer out a streamlined faster simplified process [for credential recognition]. We’ve put in $50 million into funding that hard technical work between the provincial licensing bodies. We are making huge progress on it and we will meet our objective of giving applicants an answer within a year of their application for those nine professional categories … So progress is being made.

I know it will never be satisfactory for a foreign-trained professional who shows up and hopes to be working as a licensed practitioner immediately. That’s not realistic. It does take time. We can’t guarantee people that their foreign credentials will be recognized in Canada. But we should guarantee them a reasonably simple and efficient process and that’s where we are making progress with the provinces.

so we got the positive answer on the Sponsorship application two months ago and they forwarded our papers on to the singapore office, but when I look at the 'check the status of your application' page, all it says is 'Not Available'.

Is the immigration application the same as the sponsorship application, meaning I won't even know if they've received our papers until they make a decision?

No. Normally you will eventually receive a letter in the mail, i.e. an Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR), letting you know the outland visa office has received your application and giving you your file number. And yes, normally you are also eventually able to see your PR application's status online via eCAS, although it doesn't ever give you any actual useful information.

However, some visa offices do things differently. On top of that, there have been cases where people weren't ever able to see their application's status online throughout the entire process, despite having all the information on hand to be able to do so; why this happens is anyone's guess, really.

Are you not able to log in at ALL, or are you able to log in but just don't see the PR application status updated?

If it's the former: You've probably already done this, but make sure you are trying to log into eCAS using your sponsor information, and either your receipt number (from when you paid your fees) or the sponsor's Client ID (given to you when you received the sponsorship approval letter). If you're doing all this and still can't get in OR you can get in but don't see an update, the best I can say is either they're delayed in updating it (some offices are), OR maybe you are amongst the few for whom eCAS is just not reliable.

A good idea would be to hop over to the official Singapore timeline thread so that you can get feedback from others whose files are being processed at the same office. Maybe you could get a better idea of how long it's been taking Singapore to send out AOR letters and/or to update eCAS.
