Thank you DGT! 8 months is better than 11! I'm headed back to the UK next week for work :( Been off work since March here in Canada. We are married. Did you go through as common-law or married?

Did you have any big issues with yours?
There were a few issues with my application, all stemming from some bad advice I got from London. Right before I sent of my application, I sent the HC an email asking if I should submit my medical with the application. Obviously, that seems obvious now after all my experience gained on this forum! London emailed back and told me categorically NOT to complete my medical until advised. Back when I applied, it stated that you had to bring a form with you to get your medical done and that this form was "usually" given to you by CIC once your application reached a certain stage. The process has been greatly simplified now. No more forms to bring for Family Class!

So, I had to do my medical midway through the application process which caused a delay. I also lost my passport halfway through processing which delayed both my medical (as I couldn't get it done without my passport) and the COPR.

As for me, we've been married for 4 years, together for 8!

Glad to hear everything was sorted out for you. I sent everything with my application, and paid the Right of Permanent Residence fee, so hopefully it cuts down some of the time. But as I say, I'd be happy with 8 months.

Congrats on 4 years of marriage bud!

So as I hoped, I landed at Niagara Falls on my Birthday (Wednesday). It all seemingly went very smoothly. All the people who dealt with me were friendly. The wait wasn't too bad aside from about 40 minutes waiting in line to see the immigration officer on the Canadian side. The whole process took about an hour and a half. I checked to make sure my passport had been stamped. All good. Or so I thought!

Today I went to try to get my SIN, and discovered that in addition to the stamp in my passport, apparently there should be a hand written code corresponding to something on my COPR. They wouldn't tell me exactly what was missing in case I write it in myself... While on the phone to CIC the lady at Service Canada mentioned something about a T code though.

Long story short, I now have to wait 2 and a half months for my PR card to arrive or see if I can make an appointment with immigration at Niagara Falls to try to rectify the problem. That's a lot easier said than done given that I don't drive and have very little money, so for me it's an expensive and very time consuming trip. I haven't yet decided whether I'll do that or just wait it out for the PR card. I guess I've spent the last 10 months out of work and living in poverty, so an extra 2 and a bit months won't make so much difference!

Seriously though, I am still very thankful that overall my PR application was processed comparatively quickly, and my husband and I have been able to be together for the duration, so I can't really complain. Just a little frustrated I suppose. According to the Service Canada lady it is something that happens a lot. OK, but it really shouldn't!!! *sigh*
Sorry to hear about your issues. You would think they would get their act together when they are dealing with people's lives.

Quick question: If you have to wait 2 months for a PR card, is there no way you can work in the meantime? No open work visa in your passport or anything? I was hoping to be able to work as soon as I landed as a PR.

You should have no problems being able to work straight away providing the officer processing your landing does everything correctly. My problem is that the officer missed just one small detail (writing a code on the passport stamp) which means I now cannot be issued with a Social Insurance Number which would allow me to work. Also I was told that if I was not from a visa exempt country there would have been an actual visa in my passport which would have avoided the issues, so I guess that's one small disadvantage of being visa exempt! Thankfully, once i get my PR card that will be valid on its own to get my SIN. Just a shame that waiting times for the card seem to be getting longer and longer at the moment!

That sucks. I had a look at my partner's and there is a code written underneath the stamp; it is the Document number from the COPR. There is also something written on the stamp that is illegible lol.

Thanks for the info! I hope I get an officer who knows what he is doing! :)

Basically another 2013 app sailing through with minimal "in process" time...

Anger level raised another notch.

She means the last on the spreadsheet, having applied December 31st.
