Hi Imran

I am as worried as you are right now. My wife has contacted her MP and she said the background checks is still in process so we have to wait. we have no other option but to wait. I never thought it would take this long. The background checks have been in process since january. Its quite very long time to process it. I hope it will work out for all of us soon, Imran. We have to be very patient when it comes this kinda stuff. My medicals are expiring in May too.

UPDATE ON SENDING GOODS TO CANADA!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I found an excellent company that sends your goods to Canada.

http://www.transglobal.org.uk/

You can use your own boxes and you just give them the dimensions and the weight. You can send single boxes or send multiples in a consignment. They use a wide range of companies but they have heavily discounted prices.

We sent 107kg in 6 boxes and it was only GBP 238.00. This was with UPS on air freight and will be in Canada in 2 days. They collect it for you and deliver it direct to the recipient. And you can track it online.

We had initially looked at shipping but that was around about the GBP 250 mark for 80kg and took 12 weeks. I thought I'd let everyone know as this has worked out way better for us and I can't believe our stuff will be there on Wednesday. I have more stuff to send and will send it just before I leave, but I was so surprised at the cost I felt I had to let everyone know!!

:D
This seems fantastic. I was previously looking at parcel2go which was also very cheap but this has beaten that site too.

Only question I have is how do they deal with customs clearance? Do you just give them copies of your COPR, B4 and passport as well as the shipping documentation/labels and they clear it for you? That's what I've heard for other companies, curious if it is the same for the one you mention.

Hi Guys,

I hope you ca help me, I am planning to visit Canada at the end of May for 3 days with my girlfriend who is French. She doesn't need a visa but I do. We live in common-law so I will need to send the statutory declaration of common law union. My question is who can I use as a commissioner of Oaths in London? Is this necessary? I called a notary public and he said he will charge £90 for the process.

Thanks for your help.

Hi there,

wondering if anyone can give me any advice at all.

My boyfriend (Canadian citizen - with dual nationality for the uk) is sponsoring me under the family class as his common-law partner. I was planning on sending all the forms today as I thought they were finished but theres a few little things i want to sort first.

Firstly, does anyone know if I am required to submit a Canadian Police Check (I lived there for 10 months), I applied for it after a visa-specialist told me too but then read on the CIC website police checks were required for countries OTHER THAN CANADA which you lived in for more than 6 months. It takes 3 months, and honestly if it is not necessary I would rather send the application without the extra 3 month wait!

Secondly, I'm not sure how I will get an option C printout form my boyfriend, he has only filed taxes for 2010 & 2011, as he only lived in canada for the 10 months I did (apart from as a young child) so we aren't very familiar with the whole tax thing!!

Finally, the question above about how to contact a real person from the UK, I would love to know this too, I really would like to speak to someone about this, beginning to wish I had just paid the money for a specialist!

Thank you!
Jenny.

Hello Pinklady,
Thanks for the helpful spreadsheet. We'd like our stats to be added please - application sent from London 16/04/2012, application received in Mississauga 19/04/2012. Now we are waiting.

Does he have his P60? I sent my last two of those when I sponsored my fiancé

I never achieved this!! I only sent one email to CIC and they replied a couple of weeks later. Once I discovered this forum I didn't bother to contact them again because people are so knowledgeable on this forum!

Thank you!
Jenny.

I think you just need to apply for a visitor visa if you are only planning to be here for a 3 day vacation.

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could give me some input; our file is currently "In process" at the London VO since March 16th. On February 29th, my boyfriend received an email from the London VO requesting payment for the PR (we didn't know back in October that waiting to pay that fee could cause delays!) as well as an another police certificate from where we lived when we were studying. I made the payment for the PR immediately, and they received the police certificate on April 4th. Obviously we haven't heard anything yet, but I was hoping we would soon since, according to the spreadsheet, our "turn" should be coming up.....anybody have any experience with waiting times after sending extra documents? they say they could take up to 4 months to process any new documentation, but I'm really hoping for an earlier decision!

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers :)

Hi everyone!

I finally landed yesterday afternoon after getting off the plane from Ireland. Once I got off I was a bit wary of the queues. It took about 20 minutes to get through the regular passport queue. I handed the CBSA officer my landing card and I explained I wasn't sure if I was supposed to fill out the visitors or residents sections since I was there to land as a PR. He asked me a couple of questions (how did I come to be a permanent resident, how long did the application process take) and then sent me on my way to the immigration counter. There I waited in line for about 45 minutes until someone finally asked those of us waiting, "Who is here to immigrate to Canada?" Five or six applicants raised their hands and they informed us that we should be waiting at the opposite end of the room, in an area filled with chairs. I had been eying up this area, wondering if I was going to be sent there after talking to the immigration counter so I was kind of pissed to discover we had been directed to the wrong queue from the beginning! 45 minutes of standing there for no reason! Argh!

Anyway, the applicant ahead of me approached a police officer in the waiting area and asked if there was any rhyme or reason to the waiting process (did we need to take a number, for example) and he responded that no, we should just take a seat and an officer would be along to talk to us. I tried to make myself as visible as possible and took out my phone to type a text to my SO. I had just put my phone away when a CBSA officer asked from behind me, "Is anyone here to immigrate? Landing? Anyone?" I threw up my hand and shouted "ME!" and he took care of me right away.

We stepped into one of the cubicles lining the waiting area and I gave him the envelope with all my documentation (birth cert., passport, landing card from the plane, COPR, list of goods accompanying and proof of funds). He fished out the COPR and took my landing card and passport and told me he didn't need anything else from me. He asked me a few questions, (how long have you and your boyfriend been together, are you married, how did you meet, do you have any kids, how much money do you have, do you have everything with you, what's your address) and then filled out the form as I was answering these questions. Then he had me sign three places on each copy of the COPR and sent me on my way. I estimate that the whole process took less than five minutes from when he sat me down to when he told me I was free to go.

Overall, a totally pleasant experience! My plane landed at 2:06pm and I was through to arrivals, having located my bag, at 3:10pm.

Today I apply for SIN and OHIP. Hurray!
