This won't work. Not to mention that it would really annoy quite a few US immigration people to not board a flight that you are checked in for. You know how touchy US immigration people are. You cannot go to the airport just to land without physically leaving Canada.

The two options are to make the appointment to land locally in Calgary or to leave Canada and re-enter either by flag-poling or actually leaving and coming back.

That's silly that you can't flagpole in an international airport.

Thinking about it, you wouldn't TECHNICALLY have to have go through US customs if YYC is like YVR. You just need to get to the secure portion of the International (i.e departure area for flights to countries other than US and Canada) and the only way back to Canada is through Canadian Customs & Immigration.

And a one-way ticket to an International destination (so you can get through security) MAY be cheaper than the gas to drive to the border and back...

Ok I didn't realize that the appointments were made months in advance. In that case, it might be faster to skip calling and drive 4 hours to the border. There is no point in waiting for more red tape nonsense. ::)

Oh by the way, if you are on vonage, don't try to call the 1888 number, it doesn't work!

I agree, going to the airport would be nice!

Well some how my first post was missed, so here goes.
On the morning of Friday September 2 2011 my husband received the PPR email. :o ;D

We will drive to Buffalo and stay in a hotel the night of September 12 and then we will wake up bright and early on the 13th to be in line for the opening of the Consulate.

I can't believe that it is finally here. From start date of Application sent, December 21 2010, it has been
just short of 9 months. Those 9 months were the longest 9 months I have ever waited.

Congrats!!! ;D

Husband sent out his passport last thursday and it arrived on Friday. Just waiting for it's return!!

Well we landed on Saturday....

OMG did we not think that thru very well...Saturday of the last long weekend of the summer...

First off we were misinformed about exporting the vehicle...we were told that we could export anytime, but when I called to confirm everything on Friday, we were told no you can't, you can only do it at Port Huron/Sarnia border M-Th 8-8, Fri 8-1.

I called and finally got a supervisor, who approved us to export the vehicle on Saturday, but no one even him explained we had to go to a different building to export the car...grrrrrrr

We got an awesome officer there, who had to run cuz there happened to be an Armed and Dangerous alert at one of the booths so all ran off...(packed office and line out the door waiting). She came back and did everything for us....

We get to the Canadian side of the border and low and behold the waiting area for immigration is FULL of people needing tourist visas to come visit for the weekend.....the girl at the booth, who again was great when we told her what we were doing, laughed and said you had to pick the busiest day of the year to do this did you???

2 hours later we get an older officer who started the landing process and then passed everything off to the younger officer to do all the computer work....

We had to pay $100 plus tax on the car based on the fact it has AC in it, they didn't even ask for the recall clearance information. Hubs went and paid that, when he was done, the officer had all of his paperwork finalized and said have a good day....

I was disappointed because no one other than myself said welcome to Canada, and that was when we got back in our car.....

So hubs is official now and legal to live and work.....

Welcome to Canada....What a great relief on your side...

We all expect to good news this week....As we are yet to receive any update yet but just Application Received.
The waiting is not getting easy...We need some luck and blessing this week too!! Buffalo show more love this
sept------------>We all deserve to be happy!!

Landed yesterday at The Peace bridge everything went fine. There was a long line of cars coming in because of the long weekend. Once we got there it took About 20 minutes to complete the process immigration officials were very friendly. When it was all complete the officer said welcome to Canada and good luck

Congratulations on landing.

I was wondering which POE you landed at?
Our POE will be Peace Bridge, Fort Erie.
Does anyone know if they do vehicle export there and what the hours are?
Is there a phone number we call?
Any information would be grand.
Thanks in advance ;D

Congrats everyone on their good news! Lets hope Buffalo keeps them coming ;D
