Did the agent tell you what the penalty might be?

Hi,

I just called and the agent was VERY firm. He said that some agents will waive the penalty and some will not. At this juncture I'm really not in the mood for any snags.

I am going to pick up my Visa on Thursday, drive to Lewiston with my papers, get a rental for the long weekend, claim the car as goods to follow and then pick up the car on Tuesday. Its a pain, but its what I have to do. Unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Nope. But its only around $200 for me to rent a car at the airport for the long weekend and my husband has next Tuesday off. I'm playing by the rules on this one. AND I'll get my Visa this week!

Sounds like a good plan. I think I'll probably stay in Buffalo a few days before then pick up my visa then deal with customs the day of my crossing. It's just hard for my husband to get off work on such short notice. :(

this is frustrating as hell, don't the managers know that there is a backlog of applications? Don't they know first come first serve basis of order? No wonder govt. offices are looked down upon all over the world, no sense of order at all.

I agree with you 100%.Im happy for everyone that has gotten there ppr but lets get everyone thats from the nov-feb group done.I havent heard one peep from Buffalo and my case is straight forward.Clean record good health and Its just me comeing to Canada not a family.I dont think it gets more straight forward than that.

Funny, I thought that people who were together for years and years (and thus, were older) went through faster. As far as background checks go, someone being older might not necessarily mean they have lived in more countries/have arrests. I think there is some truth to what you are saying though. Interesting you mention March - of all the people who filed in March, only a few are still waiting for PPRs (that's a rate of 9 out of 12 - pretty good if you ask me). Hmn.... ???

I agree too with the lack of fairness. I've noticed there are some Buffalo March applicants who received PPRs in 2 to 3 months. It doesn't make any sense. The only thing I can think of is applicants like myself who are older and have more life history therefore more backround to check. Also I'm thinking it may be due to being divorced and time taken to check with court records (even though an original divorce document was included with the app.) Who knows!! I also have a job offer and they ask for time estimate updates and I can't give them anything!!

I'm thinking more addresses to check and more job references. I moved around quite a bit in my 20's and did a study abroad program for 6 months in France. I did spend the last 10 years at the same address. It's just all that activity in my 20's lol. It's just a theory trying to make sense of things.

We are in our 20s and should have the most straightforward application (no kids, no divorces, not involvement in any political or whatever organization and never lived outside the US or Canada), but we've have been waiting since December, so I don't think that is a factor.

I think we are still paying for being caught up in that whole system change in Buffalo :(

I'm in my twenties too by the way. And what was/is/will be the positive effect, if one exists, of the system change back then (to GCMS, I believe)?

What will be the positive effect? ::) I have no idea...I don't know how their old system worked and how the new system works and why they needed to change it. I only know of the negative effect, the backlog we've experienced and still experiencing :P

Sigh. none of it makes sense. I've had 20 years in management and I can't believe how random that office is ???

My hubby is such a sweetie! He said if I could wait for two weeks(for him to arrange time off) to drive to Buffalo and get my visa, we could go to Niagra for a few days and have a little vacation. :) I think that's a great idea!!!

I'm told by a friend at CIC (who, by the way, can't go outside the standard channels :( ) that GCMS allows them to work on a file from pretty much anywhere in the world.

I suspect this could result in bringing back a lot of foreign mission workers to Canada and have them work from Ottawa.

At very least, they'd be able to better handle disruptions like Syria and Egypt.
