Hello all!

Quick update! Just received our passports back from Buffalo! The wife and I were painting our front room when the door bell rang and our postal carrier was at the door. I knew what it was right away.

July 20 - I received PPR
July 25 - I mailed our passports to Buffalo with requested photos of me and my family members via FedEx
July 26 - My Passports received in Buffalo
Aug 07 - Received our passports back via the prepaid USPS envelope, mine with my new visa applied!

So thrilled to be planning a landing date! Hopefully our home sells as soon as we list and we'll be good to go!

Wishing everyone who's waiting some positive news soon!

Cheers!

I am so happy for you my friend!!! Have fun planning your trip! Good luck selling your house. That may end up being more difficult than this process...who would have thought? Please let me know when you are arriving. I want to go and have that lunch and maybe, just maybe, by then we will both have something to celebrate!!

Hi there! Congrats on getting married! I wouldnt waste your money on an immigration lawyer if your case isnt very complicated. You can get a lot of help here! :)
Yes, you can visit him in Canada for upto 6 months. If he can get his child support out of arrears by then, and you send in your application for PR and have the receipts for it, you can extend your visit by sending in $75 along with the proper paper work by your 5th month of visiting, requesting to extend your stay so you can continue visiting your husband while your PR is in process (and submit all the proof you can that it is processing, such as the receipts for sponsorship and PR app, and if you have it already - your sponsorship approval , along with your birth certificate, and a letter from your husband along with proof of his income that he will be financially supporting you while you are visiting. It takes a few months to get the approval back (as of right now), but during that waiting time you are on implied status, and you can continue visiting until you get a decision back.

And yes, you can file outland through Buffalo while you are visiting him in Canada. We are doing that right now - my spouse has been here for over 19 months now on an extended visitor visa.

Just when you cross to visit him, make sure you dont say you are living with him for 6 months, make it clear that you know its strictly a visit.
Make sure that you get a stamp on your passport when you cross. I had a friend whose visitor extension was denied because they did not get a stamp. My wife did not get a stamp either, so we are worried for when December approaches.

I was curious about getting an extended stay visitor visa.I have been In Canada for the last year on a work visa but It expires In Sep.I was told I had to leave when It expires.
I have left a couple times to go back to the states for a week at a time. The last time was just last week, not sure if It matters or not.So what I was wondering does It matter that my passport was restamped last week or do I still have to apply for a visitor visa to stay till my paperwork goes through and If so where can I get the proper paperwork to fill out?And can the paperwork be turned In here In Calgary or do I have to mail it?

We applied twice and hubby never had a stamp, it wasnt a problem. I guess it depends on who is processing it.

You can get the paperwork on the CIC website under visiting canada, then extend your stay. You can apply either online, or by mail. Most people choose to do it by mail because it takes a lot longer to process (meaning you are on implied status longer, lol.)

If you're a US citizen and you enter Canada and get a visitor visa, and you go back to the states for say a week before the visa is up,then go back into Canada that visa is still good right?

US citizens are visa exempt and do not receive a visa nor require one. The only thing that you can get close to is "visitor record" but that is different. Either way, they should be fine to cross back into the US and come back if they please the border officer.

US citizens don't get a stamp in their passport when they cross and say they plan on visiting the whole time while their PR application is in process?

You will benefit from reading this. And also read the regular "visiting" section too.
http://www.us2canada.com/visitor_record.html

No, most US citizens do not even get a stamp in their passport when they cross some do. Even so that isn't a "visa". A visa is a document that people from some countries need approved for before attempting to cross into Canada. US citizens do NOT need a visa. If you are wanting them to have a "visitor record" to stay for the whole PR application process then I recommend you attempt to get that on the 2nd crossing not the first one.

Here is a link for what it means to be visa-exempt and requirements: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visa-exempt.asp
