Temporary SIN to new SIN after landing and other tax questions

Hi guys,

I'm going to do my landing this Friday and I was wondering if we need to immediately convert our temporary SIN to a new SIN already?

Is it best to:
A. do the landing > change SIN > do taxes
B. do the landing > do taxes > change SIN

Concerns:

If option A:
- My biggest concern is that since this SIN will be brand new, my work already issued me my T4. Is the T4 linked to my old SIN? or is it okay to use this T4 with the new SIN?
- Do we file our 2017 tax under the new SIN or the old SIN?
- Will the new SIN will carry over our previous data and tax credits?

If option B
- Is it safe to do that? Like is it legal to continue working while waiting to get a new SIN after landing?

Sorry for the questions, but I hope anyone who has landed inland and have experienced this can help.

Thank you so much!

Your work will issue your T4 to whatever SIN number it has on record at the time. If you don't update them in time, your T4 will apply to your old SIN. Once you get a new SIN, your old SIN is invalid so I imagine you have to file with your new SIN and update your employer right away.

I do know that your old and new SIN numbers are linked together. So all your information tied to your old SIN applies to your new SIN.

Just got my new SIN in December 2018 when I became a permanent resident here in Ontario. I had to set up a new CRA account because it wouldn't allow me to login with my old account. Will I have problems filing my taxes for 2018 in 2019? Just wondering.

Guys a quick question?
What's this old and new sin? I got my sin last July when I did soft landing. Do I need to change that now?

Everyone's definition for old and new sin is different. For example, one may refer to the sin he/she got before he/she lost their former PR status and apply for a new one as soon as they got a new PR status.
