Hi guys,
I know it's a bit off topic but this section of the forum is so active maybe someone of you know this:
My company is paying me 30 days of temporary housing as part of relocation. My manager would approve even longer if the laws in Canada would allow that.
Do you guys now what's the limitations? I think at some point this will be taxable benefits. I tried to google it but could not find anything helpful.

Thanks
nsk

It depends how long you are in canada for. I am assuming you are relocating as an internal transfer from another location?
If iyour "home" location outside of a certain distance to your new location, you may be eligible for Section 6.6 which is a tax law offering tax-free incentives such as housing, a per-diem allowance and transport. It's a complicated system though and there are a lot of factors involved so I recommend getting professional advice.

Hi lpc, thanks for the information. Actually as an inter company transfer employee my current company is sponsoring my housing here in Canada because my home base is in Germany. However now, I changed my employer and I my home base is shifting to Canada. The relocation package covers 30 days of temporary housing until I find something. The question is, are those 30 days regulated by the government or not.

Cheers
