Hello! For some reason this has been impossible to find anywhere online thus far. My question is, Is my visa renewed with the new year? Or 12 months after I left?
My friend from Canada said that I can stay 6 months (If granted) after the new year, but wouldn't that mean you could stay for 6 months, leave for a day, and re enter directly after the new year? This didn't sound quite right to me, so I wanted to ask before i flew. It's been over 6 months since my last stay.

I'm aware that Visas do not renew automatically, but I'm asking if I would be entering too soon after my last stay,
Would I be trying to re-enter too soon if I went back to Canada after having spent roughly 6 months there last year?

For example, if I stayed from January 1st, and left June 28th of last year, does that mean I can only re-enter after June 28th of this year for another 6 months? Or could I re-enter anytime this year? (Is it reset after the new year)

I've never overstayed a visa there, and plan to spend under 6 months this year if that's helpful c:

TRVs cannot be renewed.

A TRV/visitor visa only allows you to board a commercial carrier to Canada.

At the POE, you are given visitor status each time you are allowed into Canada. How long you are allowed to stay or your visitor status will depend on the officer you meet each time you attempt entry.

So, your visitor status does not expire at the end of each calendar year. It does not get renewed at all.

You can attempt to enter as many times as you wish during the validity of your visa counterfoil. The immigration officer will decide if you are allowed to enter + for how long

Ohh, So the amount of time I've been gone doesn't matter at all? (We're from the US, does this make any difference?)

No, it does not matter. You will be assessed each time you attempt entry. You could be allowed back in for another 6 months.... or less.... or denied entry. It's entirely up to the immigration officer.

You could return even the next day after you leave (although not advisable if you have already stayed for several months at a stretch)

Thank you very much for your help! Have a wonderful day c:
