Hi everybody,

I recently got my PR status as a common-law partner, my partner is Canadian I am from the UK. After first stage approval I was allowed to get a work permit and started working as soon as I received it last August, so I accumulated 5 months pay and taxes etc. for 2011. Obviously I need to file a tax return, my questions are:

a) do I file as a common-law partner even though I didn't actually become a common-law partner until Feb 2012?

b) Do I then enter all the relevant info about my spouse/common-law partner on the T1?

c) Should I have been included on my partners tax return?

Many thanks for your help

Lloyd

The taxes you are filing now is for 2011 so you will file as single or your status as of Dec 31, 2011.
