Yes, I had the same problem with my spouse's name.... Her complete name i.e. first name and the surname was mentioned in under Given name in the passport and the family name field was empty.

The Generic form needs a surname for validation, so what we did is to write the complete name under the given name section in form (so that it matches exactly as is in the passport) and write the surname again the field for surname. Of course I wrote a cover letter explaining the situation and kept it before the Generic form so that the processing officer has no confusion while reading the application . Also I maintained the same all through the form wherever my spouse name was required.

So,did they accept it??? when did u submit ur app??? did u change ur spouse pp later??

What do you mean by surname?

Your surname is your family name. It is sometimes called your “last name.” If your name is spelled differently on your official documents, please write your name as shown in your passport. When filling out applications, type your surname as it appears on your passport, travel or identity document or any letters you got from the visa office or case processing centre where you sent your application (even if the name is misspelled). Do not use initials.

If you do not have a surname on your passport, travel or identity document, enter all your given name(s) in the surname field, write “not applicable” or “N/A” in the given name field.

Ohh I should have read this... nothing given in the guide or sure....

Do you think it will be a problem if I did not follow the above but write the complete name under the given name section in form (so that it matches exactly as is in the passport) and write the surname again the field for surname.

A cover letter mentioning the same is also attached in the application...

Dont knw but i think since they change rules very often if we go with what they say it will be better.gud tht u gave cover letter. Everything depends on luck... Cant say what they will do

surname will not affect your application at all

If you have left Visa office blank, then it will affect.....

I hope they are OK with the cover letter ..... really donno what to do as already sent my application..

Ya right.... But if we keep given name blank its validating... N thts nt the case in surname as we cant keep it blank.....

i have the same problem. my full name is under given names (s) in the passport. will this N/A work for me?
