Hi,

My parents are on supervisa (valid for 10 years) since June 2016. they stayed initially for 6 months, left and came back to Canada. they left again two months ago, will come back soon. Is it time to extend their supervise?
Can we extend it in their absence, while they are away from Canada?
thank you in advance

Hello
From the above timeline it looks like their visa is valid till 2026 June. They can stay up-to 2 years in one stretch on super visa. You don't need to apply for any extension. Just make sure their Insurance is valid nothing else you need to do

Good Luck

Thank you for your reply. I read somewhere that validity is different from suggested period of stay and I thought we needed to renew it or extend it every 2 years. or does it mean they need to leave Canada every 2 years and come back. in that case, can they get a Nexus and go to the US instead of going all the way back home?

The Nexus card is only available to citizens and permanent residents of Canada and the US. Unless they are citizens or green card holders in the US, they don't qualify.

If they leave Canada and then immediately return, there is no guarantee they will be allowed back in and for how long. The super visa does not guarantee entry. One option is to not leave Canada and instead apply from within Canada to extend their stay (no guarantee of approval). If they leave Canada instead, they should remain outside of Canada for a while (at least 8 months) before attempting to return again.
