Hi,

I got my approval from NS on 5th Oct 2009. They, as usual, gave me 120 days to submit the full application to Buffalso (I am Indian who is residing in US).

- I have the PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) from the Indian Embassy.

- I still don't have the FBI or Virginia PCC. I feel these certificates might take more than 120 day time frame to reach me (which would be 5th Feb 2010).

Should I submit the application and say I would send FBI PCC as and when it arrives? My all other documents are ready. From couple of websites I got that PCC is usually required after approval from Buffalo.

Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks,
Kapil

Wait, the FBI certificate takes about 5/6 weeks max. Read the instructions, you get one chance to submit a COMPLETE application.

MathCanada, could you please let me know how long it took for you to get the police clearance from Indian embassy? And which Indian embassy did you apply to?

FBI MUST be submitted with the application. I've done the PCC from the FBI 2 times now :) it only took 3 weeks each time. So you have plenty of time to get the FBI certificate, even if you were just now applying, and it took as long as 5-6 weeks.

As for Virginia, you do not need to submit that unless/until it is requested by the visa office. If you've already applied and you receive it in time, great - go ahead and submit that too. Otherwise, don't worry about it within the 120 days.

PMM and jes_ON thanks a lot for the replies!

Pasi: The PCC from Indian Embassy in DC took around 5 weeks. My passport was issued in India and I applied for PCC during the holiday season that's why it took so much time.

Mathcanada - Did you send your original passport to them when you applied? From other posts, I came to know that SFO Indian consulate accepts notarized passport copy to get the pcc and once the verification is done, they call us to send the original passport to get it stamped. This is to avoid our passport being with them for almost 30 to 45 days. Is there any option like that for the DC consulate or did you leave your passport with them for the full 5 weeks?

Mathcanada,
Try to send the all documents. If you really can not submit PCC, submit all documents without PCC and you have to write a letter explaning why you could not obtain PCC.
I was also in same situation, and I submitted all documents without PCC from where I stayed.
Now I have already got the Medical request,RPRF, Passport etc..But they have request to submit the PCC too.
If you any confusion you can write me.

Deepak1, Thank you. This is good info. I have collected all the docs and I would be taking the IELTS soon. I just need the PCC from India as it looks like it will take some time for me to get it. I think I would not wait and submit the docs once I get the IELTS results.

Mine is the same situation, I got approval this month and have 120 days for submission.. For police clearance, do we have to get it done through indian embassy ( as I am Indian citizen and staying in US).

I was under impression we have to get fingerprints from local police and have to send it to FBI for approval. Am i right or is there any confusion in my understanding.. Pls suggest..

Meena1208 - You need police clearance from all the countries where you stayed for more than 6 months after your 18 years of age. In my case, I have to get PCC from India and US as I am here in US for the last 2 years. You can get the Indian PCC from the Indian embassy in US. For US PCC, you need to get it from FBI and for this you would need to send them your fingerprints. I had my fingerprinting done at the Courthouse in my city for $10. I am sure your state would also have a govt fingerprinting agency. Google and find it out.

Thanks for your reply, it was very helpful.. i have 2 kids (9,4) do i need to do fingerprints for them too? After taking fingerprints from any private agencies or local courthouse, do I have to notaries it

nope, kids find the ink yucky.

Finger printing only for those places you stayed from the age of 18 where stay > 6months.

For finger printing, do we have to do it on print card or live scan. I talked to our local sheriif and then said, we have to get our own print card or live scan paper downloaded from somewhere. Can you suggest what need to be done.. I am not sure about the print card from where we have to get this.

Here is the link for the fingerprint card from FBI website.
