Studying can my father go with me?

Hi all,

I'm planing to apply for Canada student visa, I have done my degree in UK and would like to do my master's in Canada, problem is that I live with my father and he is alone I have to take him with me and apply visa for him at the same time, so my question are.

- is he allowed to go with me? since the situation is that there is no one here to take care of him except me and no family member is here.

- is the 60KUSD or 77KCAD is enough to cover his expense and mine? as per my calculation it's more than enough but still I just through it out their.

any other suggestion? before I start processing?

The short answer is no - he cannot come with you.

He can apply for a TRV to visit you for short periods of time while you are studying in Canada. However he cannot live with you for the entire time you are here studying.

Hello, thanks for the replay but he is aged and I cannot leave him, is there a way of exception that I can take him in return I have to show more money in account and actually take all expenses responsibility?

No - there are no exceptions available.

The most you can do is apply for a TRV for him (tourist visa). First of all, there is no guarantee the TRV will be approved. To be approved, you want to demonstrate that he is a genuine visitor to Canada, has strong ties to his home country (property, assets, employment) and has no plans on living in Canada. If the TRV is approved, he can then travel to Canada as a short term visitor (he will need to have a return flight ticket). Once he is in Canada, he can apply to extend his stay in Canada - however again, there's no guarantee the extension will be approved and he may have to leave Canada well before your studies are over.

If, on the other hand, the TRV is refused. Then you would have to travel to Canada alone.

Also not that even if your father is able to come to Canada as a visitor, he would not have any access to provincial health coverage. You would be required to pay for any medical expenses. One hospital stay could wipe out your entire savings.

If you can't leave him, you need to forgot the idea of coming to Canada

thanks for everyone input, I guess I forget one thing that my brother with his wife lives in Canada does that help the case or it worse the case?

It doesn't change anything. If they qualify they can attempt to sponsor him for PR but that could take years.

That means he's far more likely to be refused a TRV since his ties to Canada will be stronger than his ties to his home country. So far less likely he can come temporarily as a visitor to Canada to visit you during your studies.

As suggested above, your brother can try sponsoring your father for PR if he qualifies (meets the income requirements). But this process is a lottery (no guarantee your brother will be selected next year) and takes a few years to complete once selected.
