Hello, I am a fully funded Phd student and my study permit is taking like for ever. I am in my 9th month now. I had to defer my semester twice. getting really stressed. I have raised several webforms but yet there is no news. This position is very important for me. What shall I do?

Where did you apply from? Has school helped at all with next steps?

I have applied from Turkey. This time my professor asked them to mention the emergency of my arrival in the new acceptance letter. I really find in annoying. I am not an undergrad or even masters student and I have no gap in my education. Plus this is a funded position for me and I have uploaded everything in order. They just asked me to upload some other info(most of them I had already uploaded) on the 20th of February. after that I had 3 or 4 ghost updates(last of them was more than a month ago) and my eligibility says we are reviewing your eligibility since February.

So you are a Turkish citizen? The issue may be in security checks where IRCC relies on the government for security and immigration documentation.

No, I am an Iranian citizen but a Turkish Resident as I have done my masters in Turkey.

So that is the issue. IRCC needs immigration and security checks from Iran and Turkey. There are people on this forum who wait up to a year or more for decision because waiting on Iranian immigration/security information. Doesn’t help that Canada-Iran do not have a good diplomatic relationship and Iran is a country with the one of the highest number of asylum claims.

You showed how you will return to Iran and listed the career opportunities upon return?

There are many people who applied after me and got their permit. Plus I have all the required documents verifying I am a legit funded student. Also I have provided them with all the police clearence reports from both countires. Canada does not have any diplomatic relation and they would never ask for our details from them which is not important either. 9 months is too long mate. a human is born in 9 months. universities do not defer more than twice. this wait is insane and they are not considering our future

So hire a Canadian lawyer to file a writ of mandamus asking IRCC to make a decision on your file. Show the documentation of the many Iranian people who filed after you and got approval for your lawyer to present to court. That is your course of action if you don’t want to just wait.

Thank you for your help. and there is only 3 months between 9 months and a year ;) I am almost there haha. This wait is very very tiring. I can see so many people having my problem and most of them hopefully get good news at the end. I hope I am one of them. I would be more than happy if others share their experiences too

And, Can school do anything else apart from mentioning that my arrival is vital in the new letter? I will recieve it in a few days and planning to send it to the visa office in Ankara via webform

I know a fully funded Iranian PhD student whose study permit took 16 months to process, but in the end he got it.
I am personally on 12 months now and still waiting.
I hope you don't have to wait as long, but just letting you know.

Nothing the school can do.
