Hi
Yesterday I got a refusal letter. The reason of refusal was that I couldn't persuade the officer that I'll leave Canada after my study based on personal assets and financial status and other reasons including funds in bank accounts, liquid assets and university fundings.
I'm admitted to a second master in philosophy from Concordia University. My first year's funding from the university covers all my tuition and a big part of my living costs there. I'm just 3000cad short for my cost of living there which my mother will give me that money. I had presented my parents home certificate and my mother's bank account of 5000CAD. I'm really shocked. My husband is a PhD student at a university near the one I've been admitted and we're just married. I'm going to reapply next week and add 2 other house certificates which my mother is the partial owner , my parents car certificate and my parents salaries and my father Bank statement. That's the only thing I can do. I'm just 26. I don't own anything. I've been a student all of my life.
I don't know what to do. Shoud I reapply for a study permit or Apply for an open spousal work permit and then reapply for a study permit from canada?
My husband is there and I'm thousands of kilometers far from him. What kind of people let that happen?!

Yes. He went to canada 2 years ago. We were old and best friends.we got married a month ago.
But this looks like your prime objective is to go to Canada and meet your husband and settle over there. VO may refuse this kind of application.

Your husband can apply for a SOWP. You can go there on an open work permit. Now it all depends on your husband's status.

No. There is no problem with my family tie. I applied for university before my marriage. I satisfied the officer with the family tie factors. Regarding the refusal letter the problem is financial ties and assets! We could get married after applying for my study permit. But I didnt want to lie :((

Im afraid I'll get rejected for the same reason! Continuing my education is very important for me. Plus, Isn't study permit more strong kind of visa than spousal work permit? I think if I can't persuade the officer that I would leave canada my spousal work permit also will get rejected.

My situation is as same as yours. Please message me, may be we can help each other.

Clearly, Finance is your only reason for refusal, hence fixable. If the VO was not convinced with your intention, ""bona-fide student" issue would show up in the letter. let's break down the problems.

1. University funding- is it clearly mentioned on your acceptance letter that how much is your stipend from the university? Sometimes universities are vague on that, which can be detrimental. How much is your tuition, BTW?

2. Assuming your degree is for 2 years , did you mention any source from where 2nd year's money will be arranged?

3. Did you check "funded by self" while filling out the forms? Then your mother's 5000CAD bank account balance would not count (they can probably consider if there was a sworn affidavit by your mom to support you+ a decent explanation in the LOE). Ideal situation, they really want to see the money in YOUR account.

4. How well did you explain in LOE that you will come back to your home country try? What were the main points? Which country are from, BTW?

5. Did you mention about your husband being present in the same province while you study?

These questions are important to address. Once we know more, we can plan out a strategy for next stage.
Since you have crossed majority of the hurdles, I think it is doable. Don't give up. There are ways to deal with the finance. Please send me a personal message.

Good luck!

Many thanks for your kind help.
1. Yes. I had a funding letter for the first year. My fund is 28500cad for the first year. My tuition is 19000cad.
2. No. I didn't mention anything about the second year. I had to mention that there will be a T.A position available according to what my gpd had said.
3.No. I checked university(28500cad)+parents(5000cad)
4. Im from Iran. I tried to prove that my country lacks specialists in my area of research and I have a strong emotional relationship with my family. Unfortunately I didn't mention any personal financial tie. I should have mentioned the fact that they would support me after finishing my education.
5. I wrote his name and adress on the familyinformation form. I didn't explain our situation :(
Thanks again for your answer and good help

What is your nationality and which visa office are you applying from?
Sometimes I wonder if these play a role too in our application

I think the major problem with your application is second master. Should you wish to explain vastly in your sop how this degree will hwlp u in future. Or try to get Phd position.
