Hi everyone!

I have a question and would very much appreciate your input.

I'm currently waiting for my WES evaluation results. The CRS calculator gives an estimate of 438 points, which is not enough for Express Entry, which is why I'm considering going down the post-study work permit path in Canada.

I've got a Bachelor's in Management, but I don't prefer furthering my studies in business / economics.

I've worked as a project manager for a digital marketing company for 2 years and I would like to learn more about the technical side. I'm interested in doing a 2-year web design / development diploma course in Canada.

The problem is, I've read that this could be a problem when applying for a study permit, as I'm going from Bachelors to Diploma, and in an unrelated field at that. I'm worried CIC might reject my study permit.

Please let me know what you think. What are my chances of getting approved for a study permit, then PGWP, and hopefully PR? Thank you for your time!

I don't mean to be rude, but if your plan from the outset is to get PR via study permit. Then you are going to find that your application will most likely be rejected as they don't want people to do what you want to do.

You will have to justify the reason for you doing a diploma in web design / development diploma, why you are shifting from management. Why you are doing another diploma instead of a post-graduate diploma/certificate. You will have to prove to the visa officer that your purpose of visit is to study and to return to your home country after your studies is over. However, this does not mean that you can't take advantage of PGWP as dual intent is allowed. However, IRCC tends to reject candidates who want to use study permit as a way to bypass the express entry system and get PGWP.

For best chance of approval you will have to show either a progression of studies, or show compelling reasons for doing the program you applied for.
