I'm an international student from India, currently in the Master of Applied Computer Science (MACS) program at Dalhousie University (co-op stream). I need to apply for a study permit extension and have a few questions. Here's my situation:
Background:
- Started Fall 2025, program is 5 terms total
- Final term is a co-op work term (January–April 2027)
- Current study permit expires April 30, 2027
- Convocation is expected mid-May or June 2027
- Since my permit expires before convocation, my university's immigration services advised me to apply for an extension so I'm not rushing a PGWP application with incomplete documents
- Unofficial transcript : I've only completed 2 out of 5 terms so far. Will an unofficial transcript be accepted for the extension application, or does IRCC expect an official one?
- Medical Exam: Will I have to go through the medical examination again, my last medical with ircc was issued on 27th March, 2025.
- Financial documents: I have a GIC certificate and CIBC bank statements for the past 6 months. Is that enough, or will IRCC also expect financial documents from my parents' side (bank statements, sponsorship letter, etc.)?
- Letter of explanation / SOP: Beyond explaining why I need the extension (convocation falls after permit expiry), is there anything else I should address in this letter? For example, academic progress, future plans, ties to home country, etc.?
