Hey, so I am hoping someone can give me some help here. I applied for a renewal of my Study Permit which has expired at this point. It's been well over the processing time that they list on the site and I need to leave Canada for a Family emergency. I'm worried though that I will not be able to get back into Canada since I have not gotten the renewal of the Study Permit. I'm a US citizen and I know we don't need ETA's to enter Canada but will they stop me for not having a renewed permit? A friend of mine said to just remove my old permit from my passport and just say I'm visiting a friend or picking up some stuff I left behind when I left Canada, but I don't know if that's even legal. I don't know what to do! I sent an inquiry to the CIC but they have a 10 day reply time and I need to leave before then. Please if anyone has any experience with this help!

Hi

As a US citizen, you can apply for a study permit at the border, so just explain when when you are re-entering and apply for a new permit. Don't lie, as CBSA can see applications in the system.
