Hello Experts,

My fiancé is in a bit of a situation here. Her Study Permit is about to expire on September 15th. She has been proactive about this and applied for the passport way ahead of time. But after calling Bangladesh embassy, they have told they need additional 2-3 weeks for the process. Now, is this an acceptable cause for late study permit renewal ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Her application to extend her study permit must be received by CIC before her current study permit expires. If she isn't able to submit the extension before her current study permit expires, she'll fall out of status in Canada and will need to stop studying & working immediately.

Does she still have her old / expired passport or photocopies of it?

Hello Scylla, thank you for responding.
She does have the photocopies but original was sent out in order to get renewed.

She needs to apply for the extension before her current study permit expires. If her new passport isn't available by then, I would try applying using copies of the old passport - and including a letter indicating that she has applied for a new passport and will update her application with her new passport number as soon as the new passport has been issued. There is no guarantee this will work - but it's her best option.
