I'm a permanent resident in the USA, and came here on a study permit that expired on August 31st, 2020. The last semester of my program (winter 2020) requires a co-op placement, however, due to COVID I never received my co-op permit, which made me unable to complete my placement in Canada. My college gave me an extension into the fall semester (2020) at no fee, so I could finish my placement, that I will be completing remotely in the USA. Since my permit expired, I've remained in Canada on an eTA.
I've completed all other requirements to graduate except for the placement that I will be doing remotely in the States while staying in Canada. Do I have to apply for a restoration of my study permit just for the remaining four months? Since I'm here on an eTA and my placement will be completed in the USA, can my college require a study permit from me? and in that case, will the permit come in time enough for me to complete everything before the end of this year? because the processing times say 17 weeks, which means I would be getting it by January 2021.
Would I be able to remain here with my eTA as I will be completing my placement in the USA, without having to restore my permit? Since it would take me less than three months to complete.
