So I'm Class of 2025 and I got my study permit, but the passport I used was valid till Sept 2022 (and so my visa is too, which I know I have to apply for. The study permit acceptance letter says the permit is valid until the end of my program which is in 2025, but I heard from someone that UPON ARRIVAL they issue your permit based on the validity of your passport. I now have my old passport which I used to apply and got accepted with (2022 date) and a new passport which is renewed. Question is, when I get there, will my study permit be issued till Sept 2022? Or till the date of expiry of my NEW passport?

Basically what I'm asking is whether they pick renewed passport's expiry date as the study permits? Or the old one with which I applied (in which case I'd have to apply for a study permit extension too)?

Thanks.

Found the solution, from this CIC article: link
Quoting it "If you’re coming to Canada to study or work, you can’t stay past the expiry date of your passport or other travel document. We’ll only give you a permit that’s valid as long as your passport or travel document."
So in my case it'd be until the expiry date of my new passport, so basically my entire program duration. Leaving this up because it might help someone else.
