Study Permit and Passport

Hi

I am currently a student in Canada. My study permit is still valid but I want to renew my passport (which will be expiring in 9 months). I want to renew it as I stay far from Toronto and now that I am there it is easier for me to do so. I will be leaving in a few days back to uni so it will become more difficult before I can travel back. My question is, will I need to renew my study permit if I get a renewed passport?

PS: My master's is with thesis and it will finish later than anticipated, so I will have to extend my study permit anyway. Is it okay if I renew my passport? Will it have any effect on my current study permit?

I don't think the permit needs to be renewed with a new passport.

Just like visas don't need to be renewed when you get a new passport.

Passport and permit are two separate documents. The expiration of one does not mean the expiration of the other.
