Probably.
You can find danger if you seek it out, like anywhere - if you intend on becoming part of a gang-war based on drugs and prostitution, you could probably make that happen - but it would be easier in the US or Mexico.
Most Canadian cities are like most western cities, with low levels of violent crime, and some level of property crime/theft/assault, etc. If you're a student in an area students are known to live, it's quite possible this will include a slightly elevated rate of breaking and entering/theft, on the assumption that most students have a lot of devices (eg laptops, phones, even expensive textbooks), and relatively lax security (eg due to house shares to save money).
If you're from Sweden, Canada might be slightly more dangerous. If you're from Afghanistan, it's probably a lot safer.
