Hi there, I am going to apply for a student visa for a program in Vancouver which will start in Sep18. I have 2 children and my girl will need to start primary school in September as well.Does anybody know if I can enroll my child to public primary school in August when we arrive there? And my second question is; in order to enroll my children to school, first I need to rent a house. How long does it take to rent a house? Can I complete all these steps within a month? I mean landing Vancouver in the beginning of August, finding a house and enrolling my children to school? I really appreciate your comments. Thanks in advance

1) First you have to decide where in Vanouver to live. If in the city of Vancouver, you will to contact Vancouver school board. In other areas such as tri-cities, contact the local school in the last week of August or first day of school in September.
2) If you are not picky and don't mind to rent unseen, you can start your house hunting online now and rent your home before coming here. It took me about 2weeks from responding to the ad, the landlord and my email exchanges, courier the check to landlord and received the lease from landlord in the mail.

Thanks a lot for the information. It has been very very helpful. We will probably first need to see the house, so we are planning to come to Vancouver in mid June for a week in order to sort out which area to settle down. I am going to start Langara College inSeptember . Do you happen to know which area is good for a family to settle down? I would obviously prefer somewhere close to Langara or at least somewhere easy to commute to Langara within like half an hour. And it would be great to be living close to the parks for the kids. Our montly rental budget is around 2000-2300 cad. I would really appreaciate your comments.

I'm not familiar with the area near Langara. Downtown, perhaps. In Downtown, that budget will get a studio or 1 bedroom plus den. Google padmapper.com for more details on renting. Langara is easily accessible from downtown using the Canada Line skytrain which also connects to YVR airport,

The rental cycle in Canada usually operates on a 60 day or less cycle (people give 2 months notice before leaving) so I would suggest visiting in July if you want to rent for September.

We will probably need to move in mid August, so that we can enroll our children to the elementary school in our catchment area. We will also transport our furniture and other stuff from our home country to our home adress. It will probably take 1 or 2 months to get our staff. I hope we can manage that too.. Doyou have any suggestion for a transportation company?

You asked the wrong person. Canuc78 likes to get new furniture in Canada versus bringing from home country. Btw, where are you moving from?

Edit: Rental usually starts the first day of the month

Would probably focus on making sure you and your children get visas first.

Yes I often recommend that people not bring their furniture. It is very expensive to ship things literally across the world. It also takes a long time to receive your stuff. Financially it often doesn't make sense. You also may be coming from a different size apartment/house so your furniture may not fit in your new home.

I agree that OP should focus on getting the appropriate visas for himself and his children first.

On the contrary, I always agree with people bringing their furniture and other belongings to Canada. If they can afford the cost, then go for it. Especially for items which cannot be found in Canada. You just have to find a new home that fit all those stuff from abroad.

Sorry I don't know any relocation company in Turkey.

I thank you both for replying to my questions. I really appreciate. You are right, we first need to sort out the visa. I would like to give a brief information about us to get your opinion if you dont mind. I am actually in the express entry pool but although my overall ielts score is 7,5, I am stuck at 6,5 in writing in my 3 attempts. İf ı get 7 in writing, my score will be 403. My husband and ı are at 40 years old.I have more than 10 years of experience in banking sector. I worked at HSBC for 9 years and my last position was mortgage product manager. I have a masters degree from Turkey.my husband also has worked at multinatonal companies like Vodafone, Danone Dairy as digital marketing manager. We dont have canadian experience so ı dont know if our jobs will mean much in canada :)
I also want to work in the Real estate business. So our plan is to come with a student visa and study there for 2 years. I will study diploma in Real estate at Langara college. And hopefully find a skilled job within 2 years and if the score comes down, apply for express entry. We have 2 kids aged 4,5 and 2. And the reason we want to bring our stuff is that we really dont want to spend time to buy furniture etc with 2 kids and plus we love our current stuff and feel like home. But there is always a risk of not extending our visa after 2 years. I hope we dont have to turn back. We really want to Live there for our childrens future and we love cultures. So Do you think as a foreigner ı can find a job in Real estate business? Do you think my husband specialised in digital marketing can find a skilled job in Vancouver ?do you think we can somehow extend our visa with this background? I know the risk we take is huge and we are not young but we are so motivated and dedicated. Any comments in our plan is really appreciated.thank you
