Hi all, Sorry for the long post ahead of time. Any input is appreciated!
I'm currently a student here in BC. I plan on flag poling through the Port Townsend ferry here near Victoria.
I have a couple questions though since I'm already living IN Canada:
1. Goods that I'm bringing with me. When I originally crossed to start my study permit, I typed up all the goods that were coming with me and their estimated value. I still have it from two years ago. The border didn't care about it, but since I'm landing. Do I need to translate that into a form B? OR since it's already in canada.. things like my laptop, cell phone, clothes, etc.. are all now 'Canadian'.
2. My car. I came over from Washington, I have Washington plates and Farmers insurance. My insurance guy said that I'd be covered my entire time as a student in Canada. He also happens to be a close friend of mine. (not sure if that helped.) My car is also leased.
-I did, however, get a letter from the bank back in 2015 stating that I personally can 'register the vehicle in the country of Canada, so long as I maintain acceptable insurance' and 'permission is hereby granted to the customer to transport for any length of time said vehicle to Canada on the basis that insurance favors both me and the car'
-Unfortunately, these date back to Dec. 2015, so I'm not sure if the border will accept them? I can call and ask for new ones.
^^Ultimately my questions is: How do I go about landing with my car.
-what should I say?
-do I put it down on the form?
-what do I tell the CBSA officer?
**I'm worried because my car is already in Canada (since I was a student. I'm allowed to have it.) But im not sure of what changes since my status changes?
I know I need to go get a new SIN number and what not in terms of my status change. But im unsure of how this will affect my car. Once I land, do I only have 30 days to register my car in BC?
Is there a choice to import the car later so that I'm not pressed for time?
Extra Caveat- I'm one of those people that completely crack under the pressure of authority. When I was getting my study permit I broke down into tears because I was visibly shaking for reasons beyond my knowledge (probably cause I was afraid of being denied entry and not getting to live with the love of my life.) and the officer asked me why I was nervous and immediately followed up with do I have any drugs on me.
Obviously, I didn't and I said no, but my spouse who was with me at the time had to explain that I'm just a freak.
