Stuck due to covid-19

Hello everyone,
I'm stuck in India due to flight cancellation and already informed my employer about the situation but I'm a little worried about my job. Can they dismiss or layoff me?
I'm on a closed work permit and I already applied for permanent residence.

Like any job they can lay you off or fire you.
