Hello members! A big request to answer the following question: A husband sponsors a wife who has a child from a previous marriage - that is, the child is not his own and not adopted by the new husband. If a wife divorces her new husband after arriving in Canada, does the husband have to sponsor the child until the child reaches the age of majority, or does the husband have to sponsor only the wife for 3 years after she received the PR? Thank you in advance!

A husband doesn’t sponsor a wife for 3 years he must repay the government if his ex-wife claims welfare for up to 3 years from landing. Unless the couple has lived abroad and been married for some time if a spouse divorces their spouse soon after arriving in Canada expect that marriage of convenience could be investigated.

You're financially responsible for ten years or until the child reaches 25 years of age, if I read this correctly:

I found info about "Dependent child (biological or adopted) or child to be adopted in Canada under 22 years of age" But this child is not adopted, if I understand it correctly. Thanks!

Dear, members, can you please advice how much could be the expenses of the state for a teenager and an ex-wife, after a divorce? Аbout what amount USD per month it is expressed if they will live in Calgary.

Another question about the prenuptial agreement. Will the clause of the agreement be in force, which will state that the value gain of my apartment is not subject to a 50/50 split in the event of a divorce? THANK YOU!

I believe if you sponsor a spouse with a child, whether your own or not, the obligations signed under the sponsorship agreement are the same.

You really should see a lawyer or specialist in these areas. Note that what may be your commitment (financial liability) under the sponsorship agreement and your financial / legal obligations to your spouse and other family are different matters - the 'family law' aspects are not the same as those in the sponsorship agreement, even if they may overlap in some respects.
