statutory declaration from 2 friends. how to write it

Hi,

I'm applying threw the family class with common law. We need at least two friends that sign a statutory declaration that they know us and that our relationship is "for real" and on ongoing.

1. How do I write that? I couldn't find any example text anywhere? Or at least what does it have to say?
2. Do they just have to take this pre-written paper and go to a public notary with their IDs?
3. Is there a place where they can sign it and it doesn't cost to much or is even for free? The member of parliament from your city maybe or something?

they can write it themselves. They can just state who they are, how they know you and your wife, and what makes them think that you are a legitimate couple. If you met through common friends, they can state that as well. If it's through an activity ( church, bookclub, highschool etc) - have them explain.

Depending on your regional application, it has to be notarised, or not. If yes, it depends on where you live, and what is the process. Google the process for your own country and it will probably tell you the fee, and where to go.

If it's not in english, you will have to get a certified translation as well.

Hi,

I live in Vancouver, BC but the application will be from outside of Canada. The office in Vienna for Western Europe will process it. I checked the guide and it didn't say if it has to be notarized.

it says only:
If you are a common-law or conjugal partner, provide evidence that your relationship is genuine and continuing and has existed for at least 12 months prior to your application. Also provide details of the history of your relationship and at least two statutory declarations from individuals with personal knowledge of your relationship supporting your claim that the relationship is genuine and continuing.

It does say, just not using the word "notary". Instead, they say "statutory declarations", which are basically the same thing, sworn statements attested to in front of a person authorized to administer oaths.

Are your friends in Canada? If they are, their MP can notarize it for free. There are also many public notaries that charge only a small fee to do it. If they are in Vancouver as well, they can have a look here http://www.notaries.bc.ca/home/index.rails
